How to make Burdock tea in 4 steps

Burdock root is well known to have a variety of biological activities including decreasing inflammation and increasing antioxidant levels.

Here are the details of a clinical trial that tested burdock root tea in patients with arthritis.

Grown in Asia and Europe, historically, burdock root was used to treat arthritis, colds, measles, sore throats and tonsillitis.

Things you will need to make burdock tea:

Fresh burdock root (you can get this from Asian or health food stores)

If you do not have access to fresh burdock root you can get a dried powder burdock root as an alternative.

Stainless steel container

Fresh water

 

Step 1.  Get the root ready

Select fresh burdock root

Burdock root should be firm and not too soft

The color can vary a little bit but ranges from as dark as tree bark to a color closer to a light tan.

Burdock root does not store well and should be prepared fresh.

 

Step 2 – Clean the burdock root

Use a knife to scrape the root to help clean it.

If you do not have fresh burdock root you can use burdock root that has been dried and prepared earlier.

 

Step 3 – Prepare the root for boiling

Coarsely chop about 2 tablespoons of the root

Place the chopped burdock root, about 2 tablespoons,  into a small stainless steel container with 3 cups of spring water.

Bring to the water to a boil. Once the water reaches a boil, lower the heat to a simmer for 30 minutes.

 

Step 4 – Steep the burdock root

Shut the heat source off and steep for another 20 minutes.

Service the beverage hot

You can continue to drink this throughout the day.

Burdock root is considered a diuretic, that is it will make you urinate more so be careful how much you consume.
