Herbs

Herbs are leafy green parts of a plant that are used for food, flavoring, medicine, or perfume.  These plants are rich in phytochemicals and have a history of use spanning thousands of years.  Modern pharmaceuticals has its origins in crude herbal medicines which is why many pharmacy schools across the United States have Herb Gardens with plants that were used to isolate pharmaceuticals from.

Here’s a few of our favorite Mediterranean Herbs

Basil containing flavonoids (i.e. polyphenols) and essential oils benefits include DNA protection, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, promotes cardiovascular health, and others

Oregano – Traditional use has treated respiratory tract disorders, gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, menstrual cramps, and urinary tract disorders.

Sage – Benefits include improved brain function, anti-bacterial, and anti-oxidant

Rosemary – Reported to stimulate the immune system, increase circulation, improve digestion.
